The Barrington Artillery Company was a subdivision of the Barrington Militia Company. It was created in 1776 by the General Assembly, as part of a wider initiative to defend Rhode Island’s coastal towns. It began as 14 men drawn from the wider company. In April, 1776, the company was deployed to Bristol as a result of a false alarm.
