William Young (1761-1832) was the third child of Isaac Young and Joyce Smith. He was baptized in the Congregational Church. In 1778, he enlisted in Thomas Allen‘s Company of Archibald Crary’s Regiment and served in the Battle of Rhode Island. Following this service, he served in William Lawless‘s Company of John Topham’s Regiment. In 1791, William married Mary Thomas in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. He is listed in official records as a “labourer”. In 1832, he applied for a pension, receiving $80 per year. William signed his will with a mark (“x”) implying he was illiterate.
