John Liscomb

John Liscomb (or Liscombe, 1764-1806) was the fifth child of Samuel and Leah Liscomb. During the Revolutionary War, he served in William Throope‘s Bristol Militia Company. After the British evacuation of Newport he served under Viall Allen on Aquidneck Island. In 1786, John married Abigail Sandford in the Congregational Church. John and Abigail had seven children: Mary Sanford, Hannah, Abigail, Ann, Martha, Elizabeth, and John. The first six were baptized by Henry Wight on the same day in 1804. In 1838, Abigail applied for a pension for John’s service, receiving $26.66 per year. Strangely, this application claimed that John began his service in 1775, at which time he would have only been 11 years old.
