William Gladding (circa 1748-1822) was a child of William Gladding. He worked as a cordwainer. During the Siege of Boston in 1775, he enlisted in Sion Martindale‘s Company in the Army of Observation. In 1776, he reenlisted in Loring Peck‘s Company of Christopher Lippit’s Regiment. After this service, he served for two years as a gunner in Robert Elliott’s Artillery Regiment. In 1780, William enlisted in Christopher Greene’s Regiment. In 1781, he married Rebecca Tomlin. William and Rebecca had seven children: Joseph, William, Ebenezer, Josiah, Dorcas, Jeremiah, and Simeon. In 1782, William served for nine months in Jeremiah Olney’s Battalion. In 1818, he applied for a pension for his service, receiving eight dollars per month.
