Richard Smith (1753-1832) was the fifth child of Richard Smith and Lucretia Diman. He was baptized in the Congregational Church. As an adult, he worked as a cordwainer. During the Rhode Island Campaign of 1778, he served as a serjeant in William Throope‘s Company of Bristol Militia. After the war, in 1792, Richard married Ruth James. Beginning in 1797, he served on the Bristol County Court of Common Pleas. At some point, Richard remarried to a woman named Susanna or Susan. Richard and Susanna are buried in the North Burial Ground.
