Nathaniel Munro

Nathaniel Munro (alias Maxfield, 1752-1838) married Martha Taylor in 1774. In 1775, after the Bombing of Bristol Nathaniel and Martha relocated to Taunton to be further from the British. Nathaniel “did not however forget his old enemy the English.” In 1776, he sailed on the privateer Lady Washington. Nathaniel was placed on board a captured British ship called the Marshal (or Marshall), on which he sailed to Boston. He then joined Robert Crossman’s Company of Taunton Militia. In 1777, Nathaniel was Stationed in Tiverton and Swansea. Among other things he was tasked to “prevent the Tory’s from selling [the British] Cattle and provisions.” The family moved back to Bristol in March, 1778. After the war, Nathaniel worked as a cordwainer. The couple had a son named Allen in 1787.
