Viall Allen

Viall (or Vial) Allen (1744-1787) was the first child of Samuel Allen and Mercy (or Marcy) Viall of Barrington. In 1766, He married Rachel Humphrey. Viall and Rachel had four children: Jerusha, Rebecca, Rachel, and James. In 1775, Viall became ensign, and shortly after, lieutenant, of the Barrington Militia Company. In 1776, he served as a second lieutenant in the Rhode Island State Troops. He was then promoted to captain of the militia. Viall commanded a company during the 1778 Rhode Island Campaign. In 1780, he was called out for one month with Nathan Miller‘s Militia Brigade. In 1781. he commanded a company in Archibald Crary‘s Regiment. Vial and Rachel are buried in the Prince’s Hill Burial Ground.
