Ebenezer Holmes (1763-1841) was the fourth child of William Holmes and his wife Ruth. In 1778, he joined Archibald Crary’s Regiment of Rhode Island State Troops as a waiter for the surgeon of that regiment. During this service, he fought in the defense of Bristol during the British expedition against it. He later enlisted in Livingston’s Regiment, fighting in the Battle of Rhode Island. Following that, he served in Samuel Bosworth’s Artillery Company and William Throope‘s Company of Militia. After the war, Ebenezer moved to Swansea, Massachusetts, where he spent the rest of his life. In 1834, he applied for a pension, receiving $32.50 per year.
