Grindal (or Grindall, Grinnell, etc) Chase (or Chace, 1757-1843) was a child of Elisha Chase of Swansea and Sarah Tucker of Westerly. During the Siege of Boston, he served in a militia company from Swansea. Later he joined Ezra Ormsbee’s Warren Militia Company. After that term of service expired, Grindal joined Archibald Crary’s Rhode Island Regiment and participated in Joseph Spencer’s Expedition and the 1778 Rhode Island Campaign. He later served in a company from Rehoboth, fortifying Providence. After the war, he lived in Connecticut, and later moved to Barrington. In 1816, Grindal married Lucretia Watson. He applied for a pension in 1832, receiving $87 per year. In 1833, Grindal participated in the Bristol Independence Day Parade
