James Mitchell

James Mitchell (born circa 1753) was originally from Bristol, Somerset County, England. His father’s name was Nicholas. He was a mariner by trade. In 1779, in Bristol, Rhode Island, James married Phebe Handy. He may have been serving as a corporal in Henry Sherburne’s Regiment. James later served as a serjeant in Jeremiah Olney’s Rhode Island Battalion. He was five feet, six inches tall. He had black hair and a dark complexion.
