Joseph Read

Joseph Read (or Reed, born 1749) was the eldest son of Joseph Read and Mary Dyer. He was baptized in the Congregational Church. He is mentioned in documents as a “yeoman”. During the 1776 New York Campaign, he served as an ensign in Loring Peck‘s Company of Christopher Lippitt’s Regiment. As his company set out for New York, Ensign Read bought rum for his men.
