Nathaniel Gladding (born 1735) was the fourth child and eldest son of Jonathan Gladding and Sarah Carey. He worked as a sailor. In 1757, he married Mary Ingraham at St. Michael’s Church. During the Revolutionary War, Nathaniel served as a captain-lieutenant in Robert Elliott’s Artillery Regiment.
