The Public Universal Friend (1752-1819) was a religious leader originally from Cumberland. After a sickness in 1776, the Friend claimed to have died, and had their soul replaced by a new spirit. They led a religious group called the Society of Universal Friends, a breakaway group from the Society of Friends (more commonly called Quakers).
