Solomon Roffey (or Roffee, Rossey, born 1758) was the third child of Solomon Roffey and his wife Sarah. His father may have served in an expedition against Canada during the French and Indian War, and died in the Bahamas in 1762. His mother died two years later. In 1778, Solomon enlisted for three years in Coggeshall Olney’s Company of Israel Angell’s Regiment. He was sick, but present with the regiment in July, 1779. He was discharged in May, 1780. In April, 1781, he reenlisted in Christopher Greene’s Rhode Island Regiment, serving until the end of the war. Solomon was a blacksmith by trade. He was five feet, seven and a half inches tall. He had light sand hair and a light complexion. In 1771, Solomon’s sister Elizabeth married William Bosworth. Elizabeth and William had a son named William in 1790.
