Bristol, Rhode Island in the Revolutionary War 1775-1783

Stephen Wardwell

Stephen Wardwell (circa 1722-1799) was an innkeeper. He married Mehitable Howland in 1746. Stephen and Mehitable had six children: Elizabeth, Abigail, Stephen, Josiah, James, and Hannah. In 1774, as part of a town-wide effort, Stephen sent a sum of six shillings to support the people of Boston (that city’s port having been recently closed by the British). During the Rhode Island Campaign of 1778, he was deployed to Aquidneck Island with William Throope‘s Company of Militia.
