William Throop

William Throop (1771-1850) was the only child of Captain William Throope and Alathea Fales. He married Hannah Walker in 1795. William and Hannah had three children: Thomas, Juliana, and Jane Augusta. William worked as a gravestone carver. He served in multiple public offices in Bristol. He was 2nd Lieutenant in the Bristol Train of Artillery in 1806, 1st Lieutenant in 1808, and Captain in 1810. In 1811, he was sheriff of Bristol County. William was a justice of the Bristol County Court of Probate. In this capacity, he recorded the pension applications of many Revolutionary War veterans. He was justice of the peace until at least 1849. His house still stands on Byfield Street in Bristol.
