Samuel Cranston

Samuel Cranston (1757-1841) was the second child of Caleb and Mary Cranston of Warren. At the start of the Revolution, he was a member of the Warren Militia Company and started marching toward Lexington on the first day of the War. He enlisted in the Army of Observation and served in the Siege of Boston. After this term, Samuel enlisted in John Patterson’s Massachusetts Regiment for one year. He then enlisted in Christopher Greene’s Rhode Island Regiment for three years as a non-commissioned officer. Samuel participated in the Siege of Red Bank in 1777. He was discharged in 1780, and reenlisted in 1781, into what was by then the combined Rhode Island Battalion. He participated in the Siege of Yorktown. Samuel was discharged for the final time on Christmas Day, 1783, at Saratoga, New York. In 1818, he applied for a pension. At the time of this application, he was living in Delaware County, New York.
