Thomas Gray

Thomas Gray (died 1803) was a militia officer from Bristol. In 1770, he was major of the Bristol County Militia Regiment. He was counted as a head of household in the 1774 Rhode Island Census. In 1775, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He is mentioned in official records as a “yeoman”. He was married to a woman named Abigail. Thomas and Abigail had five children: Pardon, John, Meribah, Ruth, and Abigail. A woman named Sukey, described as a “negro servant of Col. Thomas” died in 1792. As of the 1800 United States Census, there were two enslaved people living in the Gray household.
