Mark Anthony (or Antony) DeWolf (or De Wolfe, D’Wolf, etc., 1726-1793) was the fourth child of Charles DeWolf and Margaret Potter of the Island of Guadaloupe. In the 1740s he was brought to Bristol by Simeon Potter. Mark married Simeon’s sister Abigail (1726-1809), a child of Hopestill and Lydia Potter. in 1744. Mark and Abigail had fifteen children: Charles, Mark Anthony, Margaret, Abigail, Simon, Abigail, Samuel Potter, Nancy Potter, John, Lydia, William, James, Levi, Mary, and Elizabeth. During the War of Austrian Succession (also known as King George’s War), Mark served as clerk of the privateer ship Prince Charles of Lorraine (commanded by Simeon Potter). He later served as the captain’s quartermaster of the privateer ship Prince Frederick. In 1774, as part of a town-wide effort, Mark sent a sum of six shillings to support the people of Boston (that city’s port having been recently closed by the British). During the British raid on Bristol in 1778, Mark’s house was burned.
