Richard Smith (1720-1813) Was the fourth child of Samuel Smith and his wife Sarah. In 1741, he married Lucretia Diman. Richard and Lucretia had seven children: Lucretia, Thomas, Richard, Rebecca, Rebecca, Richard, Sarah, and Hannah. Richard served as Bristol County Sheriff for many years, beginning in 1767. In 1774, as part of a town-wide effort, he sent a sum of six shillings to support the people of Boston (that city’s port having been recently closed by the British).
